Your skin is the largest organ in your body and requires care and attention for it to perform at its best. Skin experts recommend the following tips to maintain your skin and keep it healthy and glowing throughout the year.
Watch what you eat
Most people know that your skin needs to be nourished from the inside out but tend to ignore this fact. Our lives have been made better through science has people reaching for the medicine drawer and makeup when they have skin problems rather than changing their diet.
To promote healthier skin try and include less processed food and drink more water. Eat vegetables of all colors and focus on organic meats and healthy oils from avocados and nuts. You can also take Vitamin C which boosts your immunity and helps replace the skin’s natural collagen. Include Zinc, Vitamin K and Vitamin D3. Things are great for your insides always reflect on your outside.
Take sun protection seriously
Studies have shown that the differences we see in the skin over the years are caused by sun exposure. To minimize sun damage, avoid going out during peak intensity hours. This is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you have to go out during this hours always try and wear protective clothing .This means hats that cover your face and long sleeved shirts. Be liberal with your use of sunscreen and reapply it if you get into water or do an activity that involves sweating.
Get as much sleep as possible
Rest is a sure way of promoting healthy skin. One of the best ways to get rest is to ensure you get enough sleep. If you have trouble sleeping, try and engage in some form of physical exercise. This brings about a healthy kind of “tiredness” that promotes sleep. Being well rested helps you look better and feel better.
Limit your drinking and smoking
Smoking has been linked to reduction of collagen produced by your skin. Collagen is responsible for the elasticity your skin has and a reduction in it leads to less elasticity which brings about wrinkles even faster. Alcohol is known to dehydrate the body and this leaves the skin looking tired and dry. Try and limit the amount of alcohol and cigarettes consumed and if you must drink take a lot water in between to rehydrate.
It should involve exfoliating no more than twice in a week. It does not have to be expensive, you can use a homemade scrub like olive oil and sugar to make and exfoliator. Always cleanse and tone your skin every night before you go to bed. Try and avoid strong soaps and additives that cause irritation like perfumes. Take care to remove make up gently so as to not irritate your skin. As part of your morning routine use a moisturizer with a sun protection factor of no less than 15.
